My stuff for anyone interested.

Some Jammers were asking in Open Mic to hear my playing.

Now, I haven't spent a lot of time with a guitar in my hand for the last couple of years, so all I got is some old stuff and some ancient and crusty stuff... none of which is "oh this is going to blow them away" quality.

Anyway... here's a short piece of something I put together a few years ago to post on the Seymour Duncan forum. There was a lot of discussion going on about using a 250k volume pot with a humbucker (instead of the typical 500k pot) in order to cut out some of the high end. I decided to try it with one of my guitars, but wanted to record evidence of the sound difference, so before changing the pot, I hit the record button and threw this down. The idea was to record the guitar parts again once I changed the pot... but I was so unhappy with the results of the experiment that I never bothered recording the second version. I dcided to go with installing a tone control on the guitar, instead.

500k

Here's another short piece that started out as a computer test... and pretty much ended as a computer test, too. I was working a very late night (yet again) in the studio trying to get our version of Cubase to stabilize on on the operating system that I had just gutted. I needed to see if I could pile up a bunch of tracks without any glitches and happened to have my Strat (newly loaded with Kinman pups) and Boogie Nomad sitting right there.

The funny part about this piece is that all the while I was playing the lead, I was thinking, "this isn't going very well... perhaps I should try again." after I listened back to it, I changed my mind.

At the time, a lot of posters over on FDP were asking to hear what Kinmans sound like, so I went ahead and posted this. It just so happens that Greg Kinman, himself, checked it out and complemented me, highly on my playing. I'm pretty proud of that.

Love Means...

Here's a couple of relics for anybody who still has Real Player. These have been up on my StoneDragon profile pages for quite some time. They're just short samples of full pieces I had written but seriously mangled by the heavy RA compression (from back in the day when bandwidth was an issue).

What the hell is wrong with you? You're CRAZY! When I had that first run at the beginning it blew my mind. You're insane man. What are you doing?

It sounds like you're doing crazy legato stuff, but it still sounds like you're picking it,and it is so clean and distinct. You must reveal your secrets before I quit! The shame!

I really dig the first 2 recordings. I really dig the tone of the first recording and the second. Good work sounds like you paid your dues and worked on your chops

long have i waited to hear the stone play...

i can't say the tone in any of them, to trebley and harsh for my liking, but to each his own with that stuff.

you got some cool legato stuff in the 500k one, and i like the backing track, but the thing i liked most about it was the twin lead stuff in the middle...i'm always a sucker for that.

i like love means...it just has a really calming atmosphere about it...a lot of santana like riffs in this piece. nice, light distortion.

the riffs and singing on journey into hell really reminded of black sabbath...take that how you will the tone and soloing on this piece is much more my style. cool lyrics. is that you singing?

the last...my favourite, rules do not apply. what can i say, the heavy guitars, and melodic keyboard thing grabs me...this piece reminds me of some meatloaf for some reason. it also reminds me of vampires...strange feeling that. ahh!!! strings!!! i love strings...any thing you don't have in this piece? apparently not...since the duel lead stuff just kicked back in. are you playing this seperately, or using some kind of harmonizer here? at 2.56...i get a very dream theater type feeling, especially with all the string and keyboard effects. great piece this one. would love to hear the version without the heavily compression...

Wow. Great playing man. You freakin rock. I mean, that did blow me away... and I loved "Love means" that was super chill and had great riffs. 500K was just crazy hammer on pull of stuff. So cool.

I'm pressed for time at the moment... and may be away from any sort of computer for the next day or two... but I promise to answer any and all questions when I get back home.

That's Paul Yanez on vocals. He could have gone big in Stone's opinion.

The first one is great. I love the contrast between the slow dum beat and the quick guitar. Great playing.

Love means - Great playing again. Very creative, very professional.

Journey Into Hell - Total Black Sabbath sound. I like it.

Rules Do Not Apply - This one is awesome. It makes me think of a little King Crimson.
