ESP LTD Set-in or Neck-thru?
Hello everyone.. I'm bothering again with a some questions..
Besides de Ibanez SZ that I posted on the other thread, I had in mind several ESP LTD options.. My first choice in there would be the LTD MH-400 that features GREAT things like EMGs 81/81 set, licensed floyd, grover tuners, mahogany with quilted maple top, extra jumbo frets, etc, etc.. but the one thing that makes me question this guitar is the set-in neck... I mean.. when i hear ESP or LTD the first thing that comes to mind is "neck-thru".. . so what's the point in buying an ESP guitar that has a set-in neck? This guitar is priced at musiciansfriend U$S 629 My alternative was the LTD M-200FM, which differs mainly from its agathis body, passive pu's, and most importantly, its neck-thru construction.. this guitar is priced U$S 419 at MF. Those 200 dollars dif. could buy the EMGs 81/81 that the MH-400 comes with stock. And I would have a guitar that features Active pu's AND neck-thru construction. it's agathis body would be the only downside to my knowledge.. but is it really a downside over the neck-thru construction? so.. Assuming that both guitars had an EMG 81/81 set Agathis body+Neck-thru neck VS Mahogany body+Set-in neck what would you guys pick? |

does the LTD M-200FM have a floyd rose tremolo? if it does i would probably go for this one...if you do replace the pickups with 81's. it depends what kind of music you play, for me, i NEED a floyd, so i got the LTD KH-602. it's a little pricier at $945 from MF...but well worth it. neck-thru construction, maple body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, 81/81 pickups, ORIGINAL floyd tremolo (the licensed ones tend to be a little on the crappy side, might wanna take this into consideration if you look at either of the above guitars), extra jumbo frets and reverse headstock. it really is one of the best i've played
hope this helps.

sorry, one this i forgot to mention was that you get a lot more sustain out of a neck-thru guitar, don't know if you knew this already

i've never seen a kramer in real life or played one so i couldn't tell you straight off. neck-thru is where the neck is actually made out of the same piece of wood as the body, there really is no joint. if you look at where the neck joint usually is on a guitar, and there isn't one, if there is a joint but can't see any way of attachment, then it's probably set neck, and if you can see srews going through the back of the body into the neck, then it's bolt on. btw guys, i aint really seen/played set neck guitars so i don't know if they are glued AND screwed on, or just glued :S
